What Makes Head Louse to Develop Affinity Towards One’s Head?

If you are really interested in knowing the various facilitating factors that attracts head lice then the possibility of your getting to know the exact cause may be next to impossibility. There are no effective methods with which you can either reduce the favourable factors or increase the deterrent factors for head louse infestation.

 


Understanding Affinity and Deterrent Factors

Until today, nobody was able to throw a clear picture about the various factors that cause head lice infestation on one’s head. Head lice spread to other people through physical contacts and through secondary sources such as shared combs, hairbrushes, barrettes, etc. A common scene is that people with thick and long hair are more prone to head lice attack than people who have lesser or shorter hair. Further, the popular belief of poor head and hair hygiene responsible for head lice menace is also a myth, as head lice never discriminate between a healthy hair and a poorly maintained hair.

Head lice also have a habit of getting down to pillow covers, bed linen, upholstery of furniture, etc., and they get themselves attached to other person’s clothes and start forming colonies on their heads. Hence, it is better to avoid visiting homes of your friends or relatives who have had their head lice menace eradicated recently, as any of the clever head lice that are lodged in the crevices of these materials can get transmitted to you. When it comes to secondary sources of transmission, the house hold pets are not instrumental in spreading the human had lice to others and hence you can remove the pet’s name from your caution list.

Now for having understood how head louse spreads, you prime aim should be on the lines of how to eradicate them quickly and efficiently. Once you start off the treatment, you must ensure that you drive the menace out totally without giving any chance to the head louse to return to your head again. Any effective treatment will involve use of medicated shampoos for getting rid of the adult lice and subsequent treatment for killing all the nymphs that might have hatched out of nits.

Your should give extra efforts to remove all the potentially dangerous nits, as they can hatch within a week and start a fresh batch of head lice nymphs. Head lice and nits may get lodged on your bed linen and similar materials, hence you must clean them separately and try to disinfect them thoroughly so as to kill any of the hiding head lice and its nits.

If you just try to understand the possible causes for head lice menace, you may never get to know them fully and it will be like a blind man searching for a black cat in a dark room that is not at all there. Once you have successfully driven the head lice menace out of your head, and possibly from your home, it is better you take precautionary measures such as using anti-lice shampoos once in a week so as to prevent the lice from coming back. In order to get rid of lice nits, you can also use the fine toothed comb and it will be a good practice if you can use the comb once in 2 or 3 days regularly irrespective of whether you have head lice or not.
